The short version. Strongwise has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Your training data lives on your device and in your own private iCloud. Nothing is sent to an AI provider unless you connect one yourself and explicitly agree to what gets sent.
Who we are
Strongwise is an iPhone and Apple Watch app published by Trevor Gililland. Contact: hello@strongwiseapp.com.
What we collect
Nothing. Strongwise operates no servers and no backend. We do not receive your training data, your health data, your device identifiers or your usage of the app. There is no account to create and no sign-up.
We use no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service and no third-party trackers.
Where your data lives
On your device
Workouts, plans, goals, equipment, reminders, body-weight entries and coach conversations are stored locally on your iPhone.
In your own iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud, that same data syncs through Apple's CloudKit to your personal private database, so it is available on your other devices. It is held in your iCloud account under Apple's terms. We cannot see it, query it or retrieve it.
In Apple Health
With your permission, Strongwise reads heart rate, active energy, body mass, height, date of birth and biological sex, and reads recent workouts logged by other apps so it can take account of what you have already done that day. It writes each finished session to Health as a strength-training workout, with its energy and per-exercise segments.
Health data is governed by Apple's HealthKit rules. Strongwise does not use Health data for advertising or marketing, does not share it with third parties for their own purposes, and does not sell it. It stays on your device except where this policy says otherwise.
The AI coach — the one place data leaves your device
Strongwise has no built-in AI and no default provider. The coaching features do nothing until you choose a provider — such as Ollama Cloud, Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, or a server you host yourself — and add your own API key for it.
Before the first request, the app shows you exactly what would be sent and asks you to agree. Changing provider asks again. With your consent, a snapshot is sent directly from your device to that provider, containing:
- your profile: age band, body weight, height, units, training experience, days per week
- any training constraints or injuries you have recorded
- your goals and their progress
- the equipment in your training spaces
- summaries of recent workouts, including exercises, sets, loads and how each set felt
- notes the coach has saved about your preferences
- anything you type into the coach chat
Deliberately not sent: your raw heart-rate stream — only a per-workout average and maximum — your reminder times, your app settings, and your API key beyond its use as an authorization header to the provider you chose.
That provider handles the data under its own privacy policy and terms, not ours. We are not a party to it and we never see the request or the reply. If you never connect a provider, no data leaves your device at all and the app still plans and logs workouts from its own rules.
Your API key
Your key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. It is used only as an Authorization header on requests to the provider you selected. It is never transmitted anywhere else, and it is deliberately excluded from the app's own data export.
Local network
If you point Strongwise at an AI server on your own network, iOS asks for local network permission and the app connects directly to the address you gave it.
Notifications
Reminders and workout cues are scheduled locally on your device. Strongwise sends no push notifications from any server.
Your control
- Export everything to a JSON file from Settings, at any time.
- Withdraw AI consent in Settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
- Revoke Health access in the Health app under Sharing → Apps.
- Delete everything by deleting the app, and by removing its iCloud data in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete on request and no account for us to close. Requests about data held in iCloud go to Apple; requests about data you sent to an AI provider go to that provider.
Children
Strongwise is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app.
